PROPERTIES WORTH £17,000 COME BEFORE COMMITTEE
If all the applications for permission to transfer, properties which were dealt with by the Westland Land Sales Committee at Hokitika on Monday are completed, some large tracts of land on the West Coast will change hands. No fewer than ten large land transactions were approved by the committee on Monday, the total area involved being in excess of 40,000 acres. For this land, the committee decided that an amount in the vicinity of £17,000 should be paid. At last evening’s meeting of the Board of Control of the West Coast League a motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Mr A. Mooney. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr Robert McTaggart was passed at the meeting of the Runanga Borough Council last evening. Mr McTaggart was a former mayor of the borough. • , , Tine funeral of Mr John Deere took place at Karoro Cemetery this morning. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Monsignor J. Long, while Rev. Fathers V. Flaherty and Leonard were in the sanctuary. Monsignor Long also conducted the service at the graveside, where there was a large attendance, and he was assisted by the Rev. Fathers Flaherty, Leonard, Foley, O’Brien and Healy,
