SPORTING Page’s Raid And Howe Will Be Favoured: Soneri Undet A Cloud
[SPECIAL TO STAB] . CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National Steeplechase meeting will be opened at Riccarton tomorrow, when horses from all parts of New Zealand will take part. The fields are generally good, but that for the Grand National Steeplechase will be the most disappointing for many years past, and Page’s Raid will no doubt monopolise speculation. The Winter-Cup has attracted the usual well-balanced field, and although Soneri will be favourite if paraded, the pool should take a- wide range. Soneri. has not. been as sound as might be desired since her race last Saturday, and may,not be produced. Some rain fell on Wednesday night, but with a line day again yesterday, the track would not lie affected and the going should be firm and faster than for some years past at this meeting.
