BRITISH OFFICERS TO COMMAND INDIAN FORCES
(Rec. 10.45 a.m.) LONDON, July 30. The India Office announced that the Provisional Governments of the Dominions of India and Pakistan have appointed the following officers to command their forces from August 15. India.—Land forces, LieutenantGeneral Sir R. O. B. Lockhart in Ihe rank of General: naval forces, Captain J. T. S. Hall in the rank of RearAdmiral; air forces, Air Marshal Sir Thomas Elmhurst to continue in the rank of Air Marshal. Pakistan.—Land forces, Lieuten-ant-General Sir Frank Messervy (who commanded the famous British Seventh Armoured Division known as the “Desert Rats”) in the rank of General; naval forces, Commodore J. W. Jefiord in the rank of Rear-Ad-miral; air forces, Air Vice-Marshal A. L. A. Perry Keene, to continue the rank of Air Vice-Marshal.
