Gay Youth Has Had Five Wins In His Last Ten Starts

A winner at his last three attempts, Gay Youth has confirmed the good impression he made when he commenced racing for the season at the Egmont winter meeting in May. Trailing the leaders into the straight in the Riddiford Handicap at Marton on Saturday, he took charge before entering the final furlong, and looked an easy winner till strongly challenged by Prince Revel. Gay Youth responded gamely and won by a neck. He has command of a good turn of speed, and as he runs his races out well he should not be troubled by a longer journey. Gay Youth has had 10 starts this season for five wins, two seconds, and a third. He is a rising five-year-old gelding by Royal Chief from Nanette, and was bred by Mr H. W. S. Faulks at Wanaka, Central Otago. He was purchased for 200 guineas on. behalf of Mr R. E. Kelly, Bucklands, at the 1944 yearling sales, but is now raced in partnership by Mrs G. Kelly and Mr A. G. Thomas, Tuakau. Plans for Beau le Havre
