SIR ERNEST DAVIS AGAIN SELECTED AS MAYORAL NOMINEE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Yesterday’s selection by the Citizens’ and Ratepayers’ Association of Sir Ernest Davis as the association’s candidate for the Auckland mayoralty has created unusual interest._ Commenting - today, the sitting Mayor, Mr J. A. C. Allum, who was the association’s candidate at the last election, said he was led to believe that the association was of the opinion that no mayor should stand for more than two terms, but this was a matter which he felt was for the people as a whole and not for a small group to decide. “I do not pretend to be a big financier, nor am I a big businessman. I am just a citizen, /Who is willing to lead,” Mr Allum stated. On behalf of the Citizens’ Association it was stated to the press today that Sir Ernest Davis had indicated that he would stand for the mayoralty “under certain conditions.” Sir Ernest is at present in Rotorua.
