Lang Bian Winners Although the true merit of the French-bred Lang Bian was not recognised during his lifetime, hrs name is being kept fresh through the 2 of his sons and daughters on the turf in this . country and the defunct stallion was credited with no fewer than five successes at the Wellington winter meeting. Actually four of those five points cam ® through two horses, Longsword and Corineus,. registering doubles, but the other came per medium of Fortune s Smile, winner of the Whyte Handicap on the opening day. As Longsword captured both the Parliamentary Handicap and Winter Oats, progeny of Lang Bian thus took all the major flat races.
Promising Hurdler , z- j It was not surprising to find Duncan a short-priced favourite for the Windsor Hack Hurdles at Avondale last week, and in finishing second he did well under conditions that were all against him. Half-way through the contest he was ’labouring and it was obvious that he did not like the mud but his gameness kept him going and, after being handy all the way, he finally defeated all but British Talent, who revealed plenty of dash this time. Duncan may make amends tomorrow.
