RUGBY LEAGUE STRICT SUPERVISION OF PLAYERS’ AGES FOR N.Z. TOURNAMENT
All players taking part in the Dominion schoolboys’ tournament, to be held im Christchurch next month, will have to be in possession of their birth certificates. Advice .to this effect was received by the Schoolboy Board of Control of the West Coast Rugby League at its meeting last evening from the New Zealand Schoolboy Council. The council advised that the constitution would be strictly enforced, and the board decided to instruct all members of the West ’Coast team to obtain birth certificates.
Present at the meeting were Messrs N. Messenger (chairman), the Rev. Bro. Hubert, Messrs B. Rathbun, W. Moore, E. Henderson, T. Brown, and T. Merriman (secretary). The chairman welcomed the new members, Messrs Moore, Henderson, and T. Brown, and expressed the opinion that their presence on the board would be of benefit to the schoolboy grades. It was decided to congratulate Mr S. Dickey upon his appointment as deputy chairman to the New Zealand Schoolboy Council.
J. Griffin and M. Grindle were appointed captain and vice-captain respectively of the West Coast under 9-stone team to play in the Dominion tournament.
Kohinoor Club was declared the winner of the senior colts championship. It was decided to suspend all competition games next week-end owing to the trial matches.
In view of the large number of midget teams entered in the competition' to commence next Sunday, it was decided the teams be divided into town ' and country districts, and that a knock-out competition be played. The Rev. Bro. Hubert and Messrs Turnbull and Buchan were appointed selectors for the Coffey and Wilson medals, which have been donated for the most improved forward and back respectively in all schoolboy grades. The fixtures for the week-end are as follows:— Saturday (Victoria Park). —Junior colts trial match, Possibles v Probables, 1.30 p.m.; senior colts, Possibles v Probables, 2.15 p.m.; training for under 9-stone representative team, 2 p.m. . .
