WORLD DEMAND FOR BIBLE INCREASES

(Rec. 9.40 a.m. NEW YORK July 12. » The world demand for. copies of the Scriptures has risen to such an extent that the American Bible Society’s annual production of 12,000,000 pieces is immediately absorbed. The society states that there has been a tremendous resurgence in the field of translations. The demand was particularly great in Germany, where there was an immediate need for 5,000,000 Bibles, and in Japan, where the greatest demand was for New Testaments. The interest there was attributable to General MacArthur’s emphasis on Christian spiritual values and the fact that the American occupation troops had not turned out to be the barbarians the former Japanese Government had led the Japanese to expect.
