CANADA TO TAKE MORE REFUGEES FROM EUROPE
(Rec. 10 a.m.) OTTAWA July 12. The Reconstruction Minister, Mr Howe, announced in the House of Commons that an additional group of 5000 from displaced persons’ camps in Europe would be admitted to Canada as part of the Government’s programme to relieve the refugee problem. They would enter on the same terms as the quota of 5000 announced on June 6 by Mr Mackenzie King. They need not be related to or be recommended for admission by any resident of Canada. In addition to the 1000 who would immigrate under this arrangement individuals in displaced persons’ camps would be admitted upon application by relatives already in Canada.
