STILL SOME REALLY SHY GIRLS
There are still some really shy girls. One, through downright shyness, walked from Wellington to Petone on a recent evening. She is a girl of 18 who lives with her mother in Petone. When she left her work in Wellington shortly after 5 p.m. she found that she did not have her purse with her; it had been left behind in the office and it was no use turning back because the premises were locked. Ahead of her was the prospect of walking the seven miles to Petone along the Hutt Road or asking a bus driver to allow her to travel by bus on condition that she paid the fare to the bus office later.
The girl chose to walk, and when she did not arrive at the usual time at her home her mother became anxious about her. When the girl reached Petone she hired a taxi for the remainder of the journey because on arriving at her home she had no difficulty in paying the fare. The sequel was that on the following day the girl because of swollen feet was unable to go to work. -
