The secretary (Mr R. Bartlett) reported that the insurance adjustments on the buildings and stock were receiving attention. SCHOOL PROJECTOR FUND The fund being raised in the district for the purchase of a projector for Reefton schools will benefit by more than £2O as a result of a concert recently held at Reefton by the Adult Education Circle. Two plays were presented and musical and instrumental and elocutionary items were given. Mr W. J. Jefferies, headmaster of the Reefton High School, thanked the audience for its support and the performers for theij’ work in helping a good cause.

• Lord Mayor of Berlin The Allied Control Council has decided to inform the Allied Kommandatura that it is unable to approve the appointment of Professor Ernst Reuter as Lord Mayor of Berlin because of Russia’s opposition. The Allied Kommandatura had failed to agree to the election of Professor Reuter because of the Socialist Unity Party’s opposition, and had referred the matter to the Allied Control Council. Professor Reuter was originally a Communist, but recently became a member of the Social Democrat Party.—Berlin, July 11.
