Strongman Miners Strike : Dispute Over Trucking Rate
Following a meeting in the bath house this morning, the Strongman mine section of the State Miners’ Union declined to accept a ruling.given by the Coal Mines Council yesterday on the question of the trucking rates in the mine and the men returned to their homes, idling the mine.
The Coal Mines Council sat on a number of Grey district disputes yesterday, one of which concerned the trucking contract at the Strongman mine. The union sought a rise of Is 4d per'day, but the council awarded 3d. At this morning’s meeting the members of the union decided that they would not continue working until a minimum increase of 8d a day Iwas granted, and immediately put the decision-into effect by returning to their homes. ! In the meantime, the members of the Coal Mines Council had left for the Reeiton district, but it is understood that the union is making a request that the council should i eturn and rehear the dispute. All the other State mines m the district worked today.
