£1000 WORTH OF WORK AND NO CONTRACT SIGNED

Work estimated to cost over £lOOO is proceeding on the nurses’ home at the Grey Hospital and no contract has been signed, nor is there any supervision of the work for the Hospital Board, according to statements made at a meeting of the board last evening. It was decided that the hospital committee confer with the contractor and deal with all matters relevant to the building work with a view to having it expedited. Mr J. E. Stokes opened the subject when he said that the work was proceeding and asking if any contract had been signed and if there had been any alterations, to the original specifications. The chairman (Mr F. Oakley) said that, to his knowledge, no contract for the work had been signed. Mr Stokes said he understood that the specifications for the furnishings had been altered. He thought that for such a job, costing over £lOOO, there should be a signed contract and the board should exercise some supervision. Mr A. Mosley said that the hospital commitee would do its best in the matter but up to Monday there had been no information concerning any contract. The contractor had told him that alterations had been made to the original specifications concerning the wardrobes. The furnishings had been ordered and would be delivered as soon as it was possible for the factory to manufacture them. Mr T .P. Ryan said that there would surely be some record in the board’s minutes. The work had been stopped about four years ago and now permission had been obtained to complete it. The decision that the hospital oemmittee deal with the matter was carried without further discussion.
