SPORTING MAJESTY SHOWED TRUE QUALITY AT TRENTHAM

“That’s the Majesty we know,” commented jockey 11. N. Wiggins to trainer F. Smith after the Foxbridge colt had won lsland Challenge Stakes at Trentham last Saturday. Except in his first start as a two-year-old when Barwon defeated him, Wiggins has ridden Majesty in all his engagements. In spite of.a few reverses the jockey holds the highest admiration for the ability of Mr. Court’s fine threO-cear-old who. he declares, is one of the best horses in training.

Throughout the week before the race Wiggins expressed the view that jf Majesty * went kindly he would beat Sleepy Fox in the Challenge Stakes, though summer form and figures pointed strongly to the prospects of the older horse. Majesty is a keen colt who is inclined, to be high spirited and usually pulls hard unless he can be snowed in. Wiggins was afraid that in a three-horse field he would spoil his chance by taking on the two-year-old. in front and thus play into the hands of Sleepy Fox. To his obvious satisfaction, Majesty dropped the bit alter he had gone three furlongs in Saturday’s race, and his rider said he felt confident three furlongs from home that he would win easily. Majesty .turned on the speed in brilliant style and proved himself a colt of high class. He was a 1600gns yearling at the 1945 national sales, being purchased by Smith on. behalf of Mr Court from the Santa’.Rosa draft. To date he has won £6190 in stakes from eight wins, one second and three thirds. His . only unplaced performance in 13 starts was in the Thompson Handicap, in which any chance he had was ruined by a check he received when Yasda was sent back on hirn half a mile from home. May Stay On Although Voltaic failed in the Thompson Handicap his win in the Suburban Handicap suggested that he may be capable of winning over a middle distance. Out of Hack*Class Selas, a massive throe-year-old son of Bulandshar. left the ranks of hack performers when he scored an effortless victory in the middle-disr tance hack event on the second day at New Plymouth, but, is eligible to

run out his nominations in the minor class at the Manawatu meeting. Selas has shown improvement with each of his outings and gives the impression. of developing into .a good staying performer with age.

Good Impression Although Roseland Hall ran somewhat greenly at the Cromwell meeting he gave the impression that lie will develop into a really smart pacer. A three-year-old by Dillon Hall from Frances Cole, be is an upstanding sort who will be wellserved by time. Promising Filly

Night Ops declined her engagements at the Wellington meeting, but there is nothing amiss with the promising Nightmarch filly, who has trained on in good style at Trentham since her encouraging third at the Masterton meeting at the beginning of the month. Golden Souvenir’s Rider

! Darby Munro, Australia’s champion ; weight-for-age jockey, will ride Gol- : den Souvenir in the Rawson Stakes at ! Rosehill on Saturday. The New Zealland stayer is very fit, and with a I strong rider, he is likely to start favourite. Russia. Columnist, and Vigaro are, expected to provide the main opposition.—Sydney, March 21. More Time Needed

Master Fox, an upstanding gelding by Brer Fox, was noticed putting in good work over the final stages of the Plunket Nursery Handicap at Trentham last week. He looks the type to develop into a useful galloper with a little more time. His dam, Miss Eureka, is a full-sister to Royevrus, who was a good, performer in I the Aucland province, and won I among other races the A.R.C. Mit- ■ chelson Cup.
