BOYCOTT OF DOBSON SCHOOL IN WET WEATHER AVOIDED
The threat of the Dobson School Committee to request parents to keep their children at home and away from school on wet days, has, apparently resulted in action being taken by the Canterbury Education Board to put the school ground in suitable order.
Today is actually the first wet day to occur since the school committee decided to take a stand in order to obtain what it claimed was longoverdue attention to the school ground which, it was stated, in wet weather resembled a bog. In view of the department’s action in employing a man to attend to the ground, however, the children assembled at the school as usual this morning and later left for Greymouth to take part in the primary school sports being held at Victoria Park.
Commenting on the position this afternoon, Mr J. Hunter, secretary of the school committee, said that his organisation was quite firm in its intention to keep the pupils away from the school on wet days if the work was not continued.
