MAIL BOXES IN WESTPORT STREETS RIFLED AT WEEK-END

The locks on six Post Office street letterboxes at Westport were smashed and the contents presumably rifled some time on Saturday night. The quantity of mail stolen is, of course, unknown while it is also unknown whether the letters were destroyed or posted elsewhere. Interfering with mails is a serious offence and investigations have been commenced by the police. Locks had to be replaced on all six boxes, while one box was so extensively damaged that it was useless and had to be renewed.
