The Land “The Source Of All True Wealth,” Lord Bledisloe Says
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 14. Two world wars had taught most townspeople in the Old Country that they must not be indifferent to the welfare of the man on the land, said Lord Bledisloe, when replying to a welcome at a luncheon given by the Government in his honour. The land, he added, was as vital to them as’ to those who lived by the land and husbanded the products of the soil. The source of all true wealth was land and labour. The Prime Minister (Mr. P. Fraser) who presided over the representative gathering, said he hoped that Lord and Lady Bledisloe would have a happy time during, their all too brief stay in the Dominion.
The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. S. G. Holland) said that Lord and Lady Bledisloe had endeared themselves to the people of the Dominion on their own merits. He doubted if there had ever been a better ambassador for New Zealand in the United Kingdom or if ever there had been one better qualified to speak for this country.
