Italy’s First Post-War Duel

(Rec. 12.0.) . LONDON, Feb 23. Italy’s first post-war political duel is timed for dawn to-mor-row, says Reuter’s Rome correspondent. Colonel Raneolfo Pacciardi, leader of the Left Wing Republican Party, has challenged Tulli Benedetti, editor of the Right Wing newspaper Giornale d’Ella Sera, over an article criticising one of Pacciardi’s speeches.. Duelling is illegal, but the police are barred from Parliament buildings and Togliatti, the Communist leader, said the duel might be fought there. Togliatti added: “They cannot use pistols, because they might break windows, which are very dear these days.”
