Shooting of Pukeko
An indication that, the Government is considering granting an extended season for the shooting of pukeko, in conjunction with the forthcoming game shooting season, is given in a letter received by the Grey District Acclimatisation Society from the Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs. Mr J. W. Heenan. Mr Heenan stated that a number of societies had recommended seasons' for pukeko of greater duration than the. ordinary waterfowl season and asked what was the attitude of the Grey society in the event of the Minister being prepared to consider the question. The Grey society, which had already recommended that there should be no bag limit in the case of pukeko, has advised that it would endorse the extension of the season for these birds. ,No advice has yet been received as to the dates or duration of the 1947 shooting season as a whole, but according to Mr Heenan, the draft conditions for the season are already in the hands of the printer.
