West Coast Clubs Overlooked

Ng Representation In N.Z. Championship Team The team selected to represent Canterbury in the New Zealand senjior championships at Auckland on March 28 did not include any West Coasters, and this omission has been regarded locally as another sign of lack of interest in the district by the Canterbury Centre. While West Coast seniors failed to win a title, they were placed in several events, and some actually have better performances than a number of the Canterbury athletes selected to compete at Wellington. T. Harker, who was only inches behind D. R. Kinley in the final of the 440yds hurdles after being checked by an unbalanced competitor shortly after the start, well deserved a place in the team. Kinley has been given a big programme, having to contest three hurdle events, and Harker would have been a worthy substitute in the quartermile hurdles. The Hokitika fieldsman, E. G. Walker, who was second to Hershey at Christchurch on Monday evening, is another who is unfortunate to miss selection. He was not on his best form at the Canterbury championships, but even so one of the Canterbury ' Centre’s selections for this event, J. R. Brown, did not even compete at the championships, and the other, M. Carr, was not placed in the event in which Walker was third. , No long-jump competitor has been selected, "but here the West Coast may have had some consideration from the centre, for the all-rounder, J. Perrin, is definitely worthy of a place. He actually turned in the best performance in the hop, step, and jump at Christchurch, but his effort was ruled out. . It is hoped that the junior and women athletes competing at Christchurch on Saturday will rise to the occasion and by their success prevent the province from again being overlooked when the team for the New Zealand championships is being selected. ■ -
