NO PROGRESS

POWER AMALGAMATION GREY BOARD AND WESTLAND COMPANY REPORT NOT YET RECEIVED No further progress has been made with the scheme to unite the Grey and Westland Power Boards and to purchase the assets of khe Wesjtland Company, and at last evening’s meeting of the Grey Power Board it was moved that negotiations should cease meanwhile. The meeting was closed, however, before members could vote on the motion. When asked whether a report from the Westland Power Company, as promised by the managing director, Mr White, late last year, had come to hand, the engineer, Mr S. Trotter, said it had been promised but had not yet arrived. It was to have arrived shortly after the last meeting. “in that case, I will move that until the particulars we require come to hand that we cease our negotiations for an amalgamation of the two districts,” said Mr L. N. Downes. The motion was seconded bv Mr W. E. Pring. ’ “That yvould happen, anyyvay,” said the chairman, Mr J. B. Kent, who then closed the meeting, after Mr F. Blanchfield had signified his opposition to the motion. Approached after the meeting, MrKent agreed that the motion had not been carried —it had not been put to the meeting. Negotiations automatically ceased following the failure of the company to supply the premised report, he explained.
