Naval. Relic at Waitangi. An addition to the wealth of naval relics which are held at Waitangi, the site at which -Captain Hobson, R.N., landed in 1840, is part of the former New Zealand cruiser Philomel. It is a hand-basin mounted on a mahogany cabinet which was removed from the cruiser and presented to the Waitangi National Trust Board through the efforts of Commodore G. H. Faulkner, First Naval Member of the Naval Board and Chief of the Naval Staff. Bearing the dates 1891-1946 on a brass plate, the relic is accommodated in the Treaty House and is described by Mr. V. H. Reed, honorary secretary of the board, as a typical naval relic of the period which it represents.
