RETURN TO NORMAL
AGREEMENT ON WATERSIDE DISPUTE OVERTIME TOJBE ACCEPTED SYDNEY, February 11. Work will resume in all Australian poHs to-morrow under normal conditions following an agreement reached in the waterside workers’ dispute at a compulsory conference to-day m the Arbitration Court. After the conference, which was held before Mr. Justice Foster, the Federal secretary of the Waterside Workers’ Federation (Mr. J. Healy) announced that his union would instruct its members to return to work at full strength to-morrow morning. Night shifts and overtime would be worked if required. The court will hear the union s claims for paid holidays. Mr. Justice Foster said he would recommend that the Stevedoring Industry Commission meet within a week to consider the claim for more appearance money. He said the* dispute boiled down into a discussion as to whether holidays should be based on rates for 60 hours or 88 hours. Discussions are proceeding in A message from Melbourne stated
that a meeting of 4000 members of the Amalgamated Engineering Union decided to withdraw all members from Victorian machine shops not paying £1 above the award wage within a fortnight.
