LAWN TENNIS Mulloy and Talbert At Lower Hutt

Gardnar Mulloy and Bill Talbert, of the American Davis Clip team, played singles and doubles exhibitions against selected New Zealand players at Mitchell Park, Lower Hutt, this morning, mingling brilliant play with light-hearted exhibitions of badinage and frolics. Ron McKenzie and Jack Gunn first .played in doubles against the visitors, and the New Zealanders, although probably the strongest doubles combination in the Dominion and presenting a really .first-class performance, went down 4-6, 3-6, against a combination who outgunned them easily. * Mulloy nearly “brought the house down” when he repeated to a linesman his now famous remark: Did the dust get in your eyes?” Nelson Creek Defeats Ngahere The Nelson Creek Club’s representatives defeated Ngahere at Ngahere on Sunday by eight sets 79 games to eight sets 76 games. , Zone Draw In Davis Cup Competition (Rec. 2 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 3. President Truman, at White House, to-day made the following draw for the Davis Cup from the cup itself:— European zone: First round—Belgiurri v, Luxemburg, Spain v. Egypt; Sweden v. Czechoslovakia; Greece v. Skitzerland. Second round. —-New Zealand v. Norway; Poland v. Britain; South Africa v. Holland; Jugoslavia v. Ireland; France v. India; Monaco v. Denmark. American zone.—Australia v. Canada. These are the only entrants in the American zone. The challenge round will be played at the Westside Tennis Club, Forest Hills-, New York, on August 30 and 31 and September 1. The inter-zone final, must be played by August 18, at a location to be determined by agreement between the two nations concerned.
