INDIAN PLANS TO RAISE
PRODUCTION
(Rec. 2 p.m.) NEW DELHI, Jan. 15. The Minister of Food, Mr Prasad, proposed a five-year plan to expand agriculture to wipe out India’s annual deficit in food grains, which is now 15,000,000 tons and is estimated to reach 7,000,000 tons by 1951. Mr Prasad said the target should be increased by ill per cent, on the scheme would coat £150,000,000 sterling, of which the Government would, contribute one-quarter, and one-quarter would have to come from the provinces and the rest from the people, partly in the form of labour.
