LODGE FUNCTION HELD AT GREYMOUTH
Reminiscent of pre-war days was an official visit of officers and members of North Canterbury District Lodge 1.0.0.F.N.Z. and members of sister lodges to Greymouth on Satur--day. The party of 52 arrived at midday by special rail-car and returned at 11.45 p.m. Visiting lodges were represented as follows. — Lady D.D.G.M. Sis... Mackay ..and sister of
North Canterbury . Lodges. Star of Opawa, Star of Sydenham, Templeton, Star of Linwood, Star of St. Albans, Ridgley, Washington, and North Canterbury Encampment No ; 3. The purpose of the visit was to install the officers of Brighter Greymouth Lodge, No. 139. The installation was carried out in semi-public form, to enable members of the public to. be present. Secretary, Geo. Scarlett, P.D.D.G.M.; D.D.G. Treasurer, H. Trillett, P.G.; D.D.G. Rfec. ...Secretary, W. McNickle, P.G.; D. Chaplain,; G. H. Rbdnell, P.G.; D.D.G. .In. Guard, H. B. Stansell, P.G.; Pianist, H. Cousins; P.G. The following officers were installed: Immediate P.G. G. Fiveash; N.G. L. Boot; Vice-Grand L. Knight; Conductor, M. Geary; Warden, H. Geary; Fin. Secretary, A. E. Weaver; Rec. Secretary and Treasurer, G. D. Smart; R.S.N.G., R. N. Kelly; L.S.N.G., G. Simpson; R.S.V.G., R. Merthehs; L.S.V.G., H. Merthens; R.S.S., A. Honey; L.S.S., C. Lucas; Chaplain, T Fiveash; In. Gd., G, Strode.... At the conclusion N.G. Bro. Boot thanked the installing officers for making the special trip and for putting on such an. impressive ceremony Which he was sure. would be an inspiration to the local members after the difficulties due to the war years.
Bro. G. D. Smart, P.G., extended a welcome to all visitors and said it was pleasirig to see soriie of those who had assisted in the institution of Brighter Gfeymouth Lodge just 20 years previously and their sister lodge, th,e . Golden West, a year later. He briefly explained the history of the riaming bf both-dodges. D.D.G.M. Bro. M. Hartigan . and other visitors expressed their thanks for the hospitality extended during their visit. The speakers expressed the opinion that fraternal visits of this nature proved , that the purely materialistic benefits of Social Security would nbver. obliterate the genuine spirit of friendly societies.
