PROMPT ACTION OF WORKER

ON RAILWAY (Recd. 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, Noy. 22. The prompt action of a railway worker in jumping across the line in front of the speeding Liverpool-Edin-burgh train and shouting to the driver saved 500 passengers in a railway collision near Preston. The driver jammed on the brakes but could not prevent crashing into the obstructing coaches of the Carlisle-London express which was derailed on an adjacent line. The last two coaches of the derailed train were smashed to matchwood. Ten were injured. Many passengers had amazing escapes.
