CHILDREN’S TRIBUTE

MONSIGNOR. JAMES LONG-

HONOURED

On Thursday children from the Greymouth and Cobden Convent schools and the Marist Brothers’ school' met in the St. Columba Hall to honour the Right Rev. Monsignor J. Long on his elevation to the rank of Domestic Prelate. A short and enjoyable musical programme was given by the children. On behalf of the children, Brother Dominic congratulated Monsignor Long, and thanked him for his interest in the children and' their welfare, as particularly evinced in the splendid buildings and facilities provided in the parish for the all-important work of education. On rising to speak, Monsignor Long received a great ovation from the children. He thanked them for their good wishes and the excellent entertainment they had provided. He urged them to appreciate the gooa work of their devoted teachers,, and to co-operate with them at all times.. They should remember to carry on into life the lessons that they learned at school, and so become excellent Catholic men and women. Monsignor Long’s announcement that Friday would be a holiday .in honour of the occasion was met with

enthusiasm.
