ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
RUNANGA TEAMS’ SUCCESS IN TESTS Five teams competed in the annual competitions of the Westland sub-districts of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, which were held in the St. Columba Hall on Saturday afternoon. The competitions had been suspended during the war years. The Runanga teams were the most successful, the A team winning the Westland Cup and the B team both the Devoport Cup and the Lynch Shield. Two Greymouth teams and one Brunnei' team also competed. The trophies were allocated as follows: —Maurice Lynch Shield (first aid and transport); T. and B. Devonport Cup (first aid, roller bandaging, and triangular bandaging; tests loxroller and triangular bandaging taken as individual test but added to team work); Westland Cup (improvising and questioning, individual tests added to team work). . The judges were: Lynch Shield, Dr. Leitch (Runanga); Devonport Cup, Dr. Logan (Greymouth); improvising, Mr. J. Devonport (Ambulance Officer, Greymouth Division); roller and triangular bandaging, Mesdames McLean arid Scorgie (Ladies’ Nursing Division). Speaking at the banquet on Saturday evening, Dr. Leitch congratulated the brigades on the special individualand team tests and referred to the excellent improvement made by members of the Brunner Brigade. Other speakers -were Mr. S. Burgess (District Officer), and Div. Supts. Messrs. G. Hildebrand (Runanga), . McNeish (Brunner), P- Meiklejohn (Greymouth), and J. Anderson (Blackball).
