French Victories in England LONDON, October 31. The Daily Mail’s racing correspondent estimated that Sayani’s win in the Cambridgeshire and Monsieur L’Amiral’s Cesarewitch victory a ( fortnight ago have enabled French , backers to take at least £500,000 from English bookmakers. Sayani won at 25 to 1, and Monsieur L’Amiral at 33 to 1, making an 883 • to one double. The correspondent quotes one big , firm of bookmakers as saying: “If these French successes continue, they are going to get all the racing money in England.” Another said: “It is one of the most disastrous Cambridgeshires that we know.” ' Since June French horses have won 21 races in England and have taken over £38,000 in stake money. English horses next year will be eligible to participate in most French classics, including the French Derby (Prix du Jockey Club), French Oaks (Prix de Diane), French St. Leger (Prix Royal Oaks) and French Guineas. “It has often been asked,” says The Times correspondent, “why English horses are barred from all French classics, except the Grand Prix. The rule barring foreign horses from the French classics was made in the year 1833, as a means of protecting French breeding, but it is now felt after the. successes of the French horses in England this season, that French breeding needs no further protection.”
