Apathy of Australian Electors

(Rec, 11.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 18. More than 100,000 New South Wales electors failed to record a vote in the recent Federal elections and in Victoria, more than 84,000 did not vote. Unless these people have a reasonable explanation why they did not vote, they are liable to a penalty of £2 under the compulsory voting provisions of the Commonwealth Electoral Act. The Senate poll for New South Wales will be declared on Monday. The Labour team, Senators Ashley, Arnold and Large were re-elected.
