CONTROL OF MINES
OPPOSITION’S POLICY IN SOUTH AFRICA(Rec. 11 a.m.) BLOEMFONTEIN, Oct. 18. While not favouring the nationalisation of the gold mines, the Opposition leader, Dr. Malan, in a speech at the National Congress of the Orange Free State, said the party’s policy was that the mines should be controlled by the State. The Government should be represented on the boards and have a say in the division of the profits so as to ensure that the workers were properly rewarded. The Congress approved of the policy along these lines.
