CRICKET M.C.C. Makes Poor Start.

Combined Team Scores 462 Runs PERTH, Oct. 18. In its first innings against the M.C.C. the Combined Australian team was all out at the tea adjournment for 462. The not-out batsmen, Watt and Johnson, resumed the innings with the score at 271‘ for five wickets. They began confidently and scored freely. Watt scored 157 before ■he was run out, and Johnson 87. In failing light, the M.C.C. made a poor start. L. Hutton was bowled by Cumming when he had scored 10, and L. B. Fishlock was caught behind off Puckett at 11. The score at stumps was 69 for two wickets. Hutton had an uncomfortable stay of 47 minutes against the combined team’s bowlers and then played a ball from the medium-paced righthander Cumming on to the stumps. He had been most cautious against an accurate attack. Washbrook, however, showed sound form. The combined team’s total of 462 was a record against any English team at Perth. Watt and Johnson completed a sixth-wicket partnership of 217 in 185 minutes.. Johnson, the Victorian all-rounder, is a test team candidate. The English fielding was much improved, but the attack was weakened by the absence of Edrich, who has a carbuncle on his right arm. Scores: —
