Transport Workers’ Grievances.
An independent authority will investigate the grievances of the Sydney and Newcastle tram and bus employees on uniforms and rollingstock, and also the financial position of the Department, of Road Transport and Tramways. Accumulated losses on the transport services are expected to total nearly £1,000,000 by the end of June. The inquiry has been authorised by the State Cabinet. — Sydney, October 16. Less Steel for Cars “British motor-car manufacturers complain that the Ministry of Supply’s steel allocations will mean a cut of up.to 50 per cent, in next year’s production, still higher new car Jorices, and increased black market trading,” says the Daily Express. “The allocations for 1947 were made known to individual firms last week. Morris Motors issued a statement that the cuts are so fantastic as to be outside the range of commercial credibility. Austin Motors stated: ‘The export and home market situa-, tion next year will definitely be serious if the cuts stay’.”—London, October 15.
