GOLF Successful Championship Tournament

The West Coast championship tournament conducted by the Greymouth Golf Club at the Kaiata course during the week-end was highly successful in number of entrants and in the standard of play. It was the first championship" tournament conducted by the club foi’ five years.

Brilliant Play. The final of the senior championship was a keen struggle between L. Rhodes, of Greymouth, and D. Francis, of Westport. Rhodes played excellent golf to defeat B. W. Caulton and H. C. Hill, two fancied players, in the early rounds, but after 18 holes was 2 down to Francis, who was playing steadily.' Francis increased his lead in the afternoon round to 4 up, and his prospects looked bright. Rhodes, however, produced brilliant golf to win seven holes in succession and take the championship.

Back Again. After a lapse of many years the Dalgleish Shield (teams’ match) has returned to Greymouth. The Greymouth A team, comprising B. W. Caulton, H. C. Hill, L. Rhodes, and A. B. Lancaster, was successful in taking the shield from Westport, mainly by the efforts of Hill and Rhodes, who played two- excellent rounds. Deserved Win.

Two Westport players fought out the final of the intermediate championship. They were E. Holder, better known as the former All Black footballer, and A. Pain. Pain was consistent throughout the tournament and deserved his win. Successful Season.

S. Cox, in winning the. junior championship, completed a fine season. He also won the bogey handicap and the stableford bogey during the tournament, and he can say farewell to the junior ranks.

The final round of the Brown and Walters Cups, fourball best-ball handicap, will be played on Sunday morning. The draw will be posted in the clubhouse. L.G.U. Medal Match.

The October L.G.U. medal match will be played on Saturday at Kaiata links. Players are to arrange partners. .
