CORRESPONDENCE Transport of Children to School
[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir, —We wish to enter a protest against remarks made by Messrs. Jamieson and Vallance at last week’s meeting of the West Coast Farmers’ Federation. First: Mr. Jamieson made a statement that the Education Board takes up a niggardly attitude towards approaches made to them regarding transportation of children to school. In our district the Education Board has granted 18/- daily for anyone who could operate a transport system for the children over a mileage of 28 per day. This is hardly a “niggardly” attitude. However, we are as yet in the unfortunate position of not having anyone available with a suitable conveyance to operate this system. Secondly, we would point out that the statement attributed to Mr. Vallance that the children in his district received a bicycle allowance is incorrect. In conclusion, we would request Messrs. Jamieson and Vallance to refrain in future from making incorrect statements such as those mentioned. —Yours, etc., H. WIN. A. ROBINSON. Rotbmanu, October 15. '
