MILITARY TRUCE
INDONESIANS AND THE DUTCH LARGE FORCES AFFECTED BATAVIA, October 14. “The Indonesian Prime .Minister (Sutan Sjahrir) and the leader of the Dutch delegation (Professor W. Schermerhorn) have agreed to a military truce between the Dutch and _ the Indonesians,” reports the British United Press correspondent. “The agreement, was reached after a threehour conference, at which Lord Killearn presided. “Sutan Sjahrir .finally succeeded m persuading the Indonesian military chiefs present to abandon their demand that a Dutch assurance that no more Dutch troops would be sent to Indonesia should be a prior condition of the truce. Professor Schermerhorn pi’omised that the Dutch would discuss the limitation of the number of troops sent to Indonesia once the truce became effective. , “The truce affects 20,000 to 50,000 British and Dutch troops, ahd about IQO.OOQ Indonesians. It will not be effective for several days, because of technical difficulties.” ..
