THE WEATHER Forecast: Rain
The following weather forecast was issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, at noon to-day:— Situation: An anti-cyclone is northeast of the North Island; a deep depression is south of New Zealand, Forecast to 5 p.m. to-morrow: Northerlies, freshening to-night, then backing westerly and later south-westerly; weather dull and foggy, with further rain, becoming heavy for a time, with some thunder to-morrow; temperatures mild. Further outlook: Changeable and showery. LOCAL RECORDINGS 9 a.m.i Barometer, 30.06 inches (1018 millibars); thermometer, 54; wind, north (fresh breeze); sky, over?cast with misty rain; bar, moderate sea; rainfall, 0.03 inches. (The total rainfall to date this year is 82.56 inches). The depth on the bar at high water yesterday was 24ft 6ins.
