ARMY DESERTERS
THE SOUTH WESTLAND CASE (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 17.. The sentence of one year’s imprisonment with hard labour imposed on Private Joseph Driscoll by the court-martial at Burnham last Thursday for desertion has been promulgated. Driscoll, who spent more than three years in the South Westr land bush after deserting on November 11, 1942, has also to make up £5 17/6 for kit deficiencies. Private Howard Alexander Martin, who deserted on March 21, 1944, and also appeared before the courtmartial on Thursday, has been sentenced to one year’s imprisonment without hard labour and ordered, to make up kit deficiencies amounting to £5/17/6.
