THE WEATHER Forecast: Fine at First

The following weather forecast was issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, at noon to-day:— Situation: A depression is almost stationary east of the South Island; a trough of low pressure is advancing across the south Tasman Sea. Forecast to 5 p.m. to-morrow: Light to moderate and variable winds; weather fine at first, but a period of showers developing tomorrow; temperatures cool. Further outlook: Fine. LOCAL RECORDINGS. 9 a.m.: Barometer, 1007; thermometer, 47; wind, easterly (gentle breeze); sky, blue; bar. considerable sea; river, 5 knot fresh; rainfall to this morning, 1 inch; to yesterday morning, 0.63 inches. (The total rainfall to date this year is 70.05 inches). The depth on the bar at high water yesterday was 23ft.
