Greymouth Trotting Club

c ‘Most Successful Year Yet”

“The club during 1945-46 experienced its most successful year yet,” states the annual report of the president of the Greymouth Trotting Club, Mr E. McDonnell, which report will be presented to the annual meeting this month. “During the early part of the season the Government removed the restrictions on the curtailment of racing and trotting and the club reverted to the full permits. For the first time over a number of years, four fine days were experienced for the spring and summer fixtures and the record total of £112,609 passed through the totalisator for the season and Government taxes amounted to £10,341/17/6. “Recently the whole of the overdue interest was cleared off and a reduction made of £lOOO in the second mortgage. As usual, considerable maintenance and repair work had to be carried out and further repairs are to be put in hand at an early date.

“During the year the death occurred of Mr H. W. Kitchingham, who for many'years was the president of the club and the New Zealand Trotting Association, and his passing was a severe loss to the sport. We heartily congratulate Mr p C Heaphy on his unanimous appointment to” the New Zealand Trotting Association, and with his long experience we feel he will be an acquisition to the association.” Pakuranga Hunt Fields (P.A.)
