Australian Wool Disposal Funds
Opposition members in Canberra strongly attacked the Australian Federal Government proposal for the use of £7,000,000 profit from the war-time wool disposals scheme, foi the Wool Research Publicity ano Stabilisation Fund. During the debate on the Wool Industry S und Bill, Mr H L- Anthony (Country Party) said that the money belonged to the woolgrbwers and not to tne Fedma Government, which was being generous with somebody else s money. An amendment that the money be invested in Australian consolidated stocks was lost by 36 votes to 20. Mr j. J, Dedman (Minister of PostWar Reconstruction) said that the Council for Scientific and Industrial Re-earch needed £453,000 this year for wool and textile research The bill passed all stages.'
