PORT STILL CLOSED
HEAVY SEA AGAIN RUNNING TO-DAY IMPROVEMENT AT WESTPORT Bar conditions at Greymouth became worse to-day, the conditions altering overnight from a “moderate sea” to a “considerable sea.” As a result, the Kaimai and the Piri were unable to enter and will spend"at least to-day in the roadstead. The Holmlea and Poolta are to-day spending the tenth day of their enforced stay in the port, and they will be joined, probably tonight, by the Kiwitea which _is scheduled to complete coal loading this evening. Weather along the coast north of Greymouth havt? improved, and at Westport, where a small fleet of cargo vessels was bar-bound, a complete clearance has been effected. The Omana, scheduled to load coal at Greymouth has, after sheltering for several days off North Cape, arrived at Nelson, where she will take in provisions. The Gabriella is undergoing repairs to her steering equipment at Westport, and is due here early next week. The Gabriella besides carrying a cargo of sugar, which is in short supply at Greymouth, also has in her holds several motor* vehicles for local firms, ammunition which is urgently required by Greymouth hardware stores, and tobacco supplies.
