RAILWAY WAGES
APPLICATION BEFORE TRIBUNAL
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 19. The hearing began to-day before the Government Railways Industrial Tribunal of joint applications by the four service organisations of the Railways Department in connection with the salaries and wages claim they lodged on April 1, the general manager of railways being the respondent in each case. Changes in the principal orders previously made by the tribunal were sought with amendments arising out of alterations in salary scales for grades, as well as from wage rates applicable in the Public Service and Post and Telegraph Department. The tribunal comprises Messrs W. F. Stilwell, S.M. (chairman); E. Casey and E. A. Whitlow. For the Department, Messrs N. L. Stephenson and A. R. Taylor appear; Mr. J. Berry represents the J. S. Roscoe the R. 0.1.; Mr. T. H. Stephenson, the Locomotive Engine-driv-ers’ Firemen’s and Cleaners’ Association. , . A statement of facts agreed on between the parties, said recent alterations by the Government in the Publice Service and Telegraph Department salaries and wages had been also approved in principle by tne Government as applicable in fixing rates in other departments, and as far as practicable, to railway workers. The discussions are continuing.
