PRESS CONTROL
ACTION IN URUGUAY
NEW YORK, July 17. “For the first time in its history Uruguay has established controls over the foreign and domestic press,” says the Montevideo correspondent of the New York Times. “New decrees prohibit the dispatch of news relating to neighbouring countries which the Government deems false or damaging. “The action is reported to have been taken at the instance of Chile and Argentina. All foreign and domestic news agencies, and also all correspondents, must register and be approved by the Government.”
