Mr. C. R. McLean, secretary of the Otago High Schools’ Board o.f Governors, was yesterday appointed sec-retary-treasurer of the Otago Education Board in succession to Mr. G. W. Carrington, who will retire at the end of the year. There were 57 applications for the position.—(P.A.) Mr. James Hutton, M.A., LL.B., a former headmaster of the Greymouth Technical High School, left for England on board the H.M.S. Achilles. Mr. Hutton is serving as education officer. The Rev. A. D. Horwell, formerly minister at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Greymouth, who recently returned from overseas after serving as a chaplain with the New Zealand forces in the Middle East and England, will arrive to-morrow on a visit to Greymouth. _____
