WRESTLING Katan Defeats Kaempfer on a Foul
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 19. John Katan, 17st 41b. defeated Hank Kaempfer, 16st 101 b, before a crowded house at the Civic Theatre last evening, after one of the brightest displays of showmanship and “rough-house” wrestling yet seen in Christchurch. After- dumping Katan, Kaempfer picked him up, and with a giant swing and body press he secured the first fall in the third round. Toe holds, hammer locks, and elbow jolts made the seventh round entertaining, and Katan secured a fall with his commando hold. Kaempfer lay on the mat for some seconds. The referee was again called on to separate the two men when they were exchanging punches, and eventually Kaempfer- was disqualified for punching. The verdict was a popular one.
