OBITUARY Miss Marjorie Stewart

The death of Miss Marjorie Stewart, aged 21 years, second daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Stewart, Mayor and Mayoress of Kumara, occurred at Greymouth last evening. Miss Stewart became ill six months ago and had spent a considerable time in hospital since then. Born at Kumara, Miss Stewart attended the primary school there, and was later a pupil of the Greymouth Technical High School. For five years she was librarian at the Kumara Public Library, but later assisted with the clerical work involved in her father’s butchery business. She was a Presbyterian Sunday School teacher. Besides her parents she is survived by two sisters, Mae and Betty, two brothers, Sam and William (all oi Kumara) and a half-brother, Jim Walsh (Kaiata). The funeral will take place at Karoro, cemetery on Saturday. Mrs. Louise Ritchie The death occurred at Greymouth this morning of Mrs. Louise Ritchie, of Kumara. Born at Petone, she had resided in Kumara for the past 25 years. She was aged- 48 years. Wife of Mr. Robert Ritchie, she had been associated with much of the social activity and patriotic work in the township. Besides her husband, she loaves one daughter, Miss Aureen Ritchie, arid four sons, Gavin (Christchurch), Mervyn (mercantile marine), Kevin and Verdun (Kumara); also her mother, Mrs. R. Rouse (Petone). The funeral will take place at Karoro Cemetery to-mor-row. Mr. William J. Thomas The death occurred at Greymouth last evening of Mr. William John Thomas. A native of Eny’s road, Camborne, Cornwall, he camo to Now Zealand some 26 years ago, being one of the original party ol miners brought out from Cornwall under contract to Blackwater Mines, Ltd., at Waiuta. He retired some 12 years ago, having contracted miner’s phthisis, and resided at Blaketown for the past two years. He served with the Canadian Army in the Great War. Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter, Miss Olive, and one son, William (Grpymouth). Mr. W. H. G. Bennett
