BLAKETOWN REQUEST
NEED FOR SECTIONS FOR ' BUILDING CLOSING OF PARK •The need for the provision of further sections suitable for the con- 1 struction of houses was again discussed at a meeting of the BlaketownPreston Road Ratepayers’ and Citizens’ -Association. A letter was received from the Greymouth Borough Council in reply to the Association’s request that the former “frog-pond” be built up to provide suitable building sections. The letter suggested that there were othei' lands in the area which could be made available for. building, though with some sacrifice. Land on the north-eastern side of Collins street could be subdivided, two allotments in Preston road could be subdivided and Buxton Park could be used.
The Association, after consideration, decided to advise the - Council that it was not in favour of Buxton Park being dosed as a recreational area.
The Association also decided to write to the Grey Harbour Board requesting that Doyle street be extended south to Ryan street, with a view to opening up sections for building. The sewerage scheme was discussed and it was decided to write to the Borough Council with a request that a pumping station be erected and the sewerage in Blaketown completed.
The Association also resolved to write to the Public Works Department asking when it was proposed to proceed with the erection of a traffic bridge and road around the northern end of the aerodrome, to give access to Cowper street.
