French Cross Indo-China ■■ ■ Border' PROTEST SENT TO UNO (Reed. 11.10 a.m.) BANGKOK, May 26. Siamese Government sources state that French forces to-day crossed the river Mekong on the border from Indo-China into Siam The crossings are reported to have been made at two points at Nakom in the Panton district, north-east Siam, against light resistance by Siamese police. The French bombarded their objectives before advancing, and after occupying Thabo marched toward Nongkai, 300 miles north - north-east of Bangkok. A Government communique' revealed that Siam has informed the United Nations of the French action and has also appealed to the British and American Legations in Bangkok for intervention. The French, it is stated, entered Siamese territory to demand the return of arms allegedly carried out by French refugees who crossed the frontier during the “recent internal trouble in French IndoCllll ßeuter’s Bangkok correspondent says that the French set fire to the village of Tabor within five miles of Nongkai.
